Cacao and real mint essential oil make this protein shake healthy and really delicious!
Cacao is a TOTAL superfood. Raw, organic chocolate, full of protein, fiber and many nutrients including potassium and magnesium. Hemp is also a super food, very high in protein!
Protein shakes are some of the worst processed foods you can buy. See my Blog Post on Danger’s of Protein Powder here Protein Powder Dangers: New Study.
It is so easy and much healthier to make your own Protein Shake OR or at least buy a clean protein powder that is less processed (I like Tera’s Grass Fed whey right now). Fill your pantry with these wonderful ingredients and let your imagination run wild! Create a blueberry yogurt smoothie, or a kale (another high protein food) smoothie with ginger. Add some almond or peanut butter for more protein. Endless options, no deception. You know what you are putting in, that makes me feel better, you will too!
Peppermint or spearmint essential oil added to your protein shakes are an amazing option if you want more flavor. I use the Vitality Line from Young Living because I know that is totally pure and fit for consumption. Be careful of using just any oil, they can have additives and may not be fit for consuming. If you want to try some oils please contact me and check out my essential oils page here https://www.elissasfitness.com/essential-oils/ .
I want to encourage you, If you haven’t done so already, to get your protein from whole food sources, even your shakes! Processed foods wreak havoc on our bodies, eat real non-processed foods whenever you can. You can still keep it simple and have a yummy shake that is full of protein and real food nutrients! One of my favorite shakes is this peppermint chocolate creation, YUM !!
Chocolate Peppermint Protein Shake:
1/2 cup milk, whole fat, organic. you can use yogurt (whole fat, no sugar, plain, organic ) or almond milk (without emulsifiers)
1/2 cup water
2 Tbs cacao (raw chocolate) NOT cocoa with sugar
1/2 frozen or fresh banana
2-3 Tbs hemp seed
1 Tbs (or more to taste) raw honey
2 drops Young living peppermint or spearmint oil
A handful of ice
*If you want to add more protein add a scoop of protein powder to the blender. I urge you to find one without preservatives or chemicals. Not an easy task. Like I mentioned I use Tera’s Whey Grass Fed currently. I limit all protein powders though as they are all still processed and I usually make my own! Add some fresh greens 🙂 Kale has a lot of protein! Either way you make your homemade shake you will be on the road to a healthier you! Happy blending!
