Lavender oil is an essential oil derived from the Lavender flower. It is one of the most popular oils! I use Young Living Lavender oil, they have three farms that grow located in Utah, Idaho, and France. Lavender is steam distilled from the flowering tops of the plant, and it takes 27 square feet of lavender plants to make one 15-ml bottle of Lavender essential oil!
Lavender is the oil that I experienced that brought me into the essential oils arena. I mixed it with coconut oil and used it on a horrible wound on my arm from a car accident, that was incredibly painful and taking forever to heal. It healed. All my grafts healed fast also. Lavender has a history of being used on burns and healing wounds. It is also known to relieve stress and help with sleep and relaxation.
I have always believed in natural forms of healing, I was at a lecture a few years ago on natural remedies for stress and anxiety and lavender was one of the topics, There are now clinical trials on lavender oil and these uses that are very promising.
How to use: Lavender can be taken orally, diffused aromatically (inhalation) and used topically. You want to use a carrier oil like coconut oil when using topically. Topically, like I mentioned, can help heal wounds. It can also calm angry bug bites with its anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender also has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and has been known to help with certain skin conditions. If you use lavender orally use Vitality by Young Living or do your research and make sure it is safe. Lavender can be put into capsules to take orally. Oral lavender is being used to treat anxiety in recent studies.
Inhalation is probably the most common way to use Lavender oil. You can diffuse it into the air with a diffuser, or inhale it from the bottle. I also love to put a few drops on my sheets or pillowcase at night.
